Beginnings

How it all started.

Sheena’s Sweet Stitches is a passion project that started with a simple but genuine idea: to share my love and knowledge of needlepoint with as many people as possible. I want to see the wonderful art that is needlepoint continue for generations, and make sure that it has fans and lovers for years to come. That’s why this blog is first and foremost a teaching opportunity for all.

The Idea

A place to learn all about stitching.

The idea behind Sheena’s Sweet Stitches is to have a place where you can learn everything possible about needlepoint and stitching and where all resources on the site will be freely available so you, too, can continue to expand this art and help needlepoint reach as many houses and families as possible.

Our Ideology

Love, learn, create!

This ideology is at the core of the Sheena’s Sweet Stitches experience, and this means that the content you’ll see on this page is tailor-made for people who want to learn and expand their techniques, as well as those who simply love the unique style that stitched art brings to the table.

History

People behind my love for needlepoint.

Of course, my passion for this art has a history behind it, and there are countless people I need to thank for my love of needlepoint and the creation of this site. This project wouldn’t have started without countless great mentors and friends guiding me along the way. My Aunt Jackie, friends Joan of Fiddlesticks Too and Maria, the wonderful Amy Bunger, and of course my mentor Ruth Schmuff. All provided vital inspirations for the website.

About Me

This is my story.

Like many stitchers I learned to embroider, cross stitch, and knit as a child. I truly went back to stitching in the 1990’s when I was working as a nurse. Band samplers and linen work drew me in since I loved different stitches and stump work. In the the mid 1990’s I started stitching hand painted canvases and have never looked back!

Needlepoint is my spark/passion. My goal is to teach as many new people to needlepoint as possible, so that this wonderful art does not die.

Without Ruth creating Stitch Guides would not have become a reality, thank you my friend.

The crazy zoo started when I moved to the Western suburbs of Cleveland. Our dog Nixie at the time found Beardie under our deck. Of course I had to feed her and thought I was fattening her up only to find that she gave birth to three kittens in October 2011. Well of course all cats were trapped and spayed then released back to me.

One cold winter when the two girls were 2 it was so cold I brought them in the house. They had been living in the garage at that time. Then Mr. Tango came along a few years later and you could pick him up and hold him which was a deal breaker. I do tell “kitty tales” on blog and share their photos.

Thanks everyone, and enjoy my little site.

Mission Statement

My goal is to teach new stitches and perspectives in a needlepoint design.  The use of embroidery stiches, stump work, and beads all add fun dimension to your canvas.
