Aloha all,
I want to thank everyone who purchased a Zebra Magnet from Bedecked & Beadazzled. We were able to donate $600 to the Primary Immune Deficiency Foundation to support research for my rare disease. Stitchers purchased enough magnets that Ruth donated almost $300 and I matched the amount. This helps tremendously since it is not an area that gets a lot of research, Common Variable Immune Deficiency and all the problems that occur because of it. Thanks again!🤗
Hope you aren’t too cold with the winter storms that seem to want to keep on bringing snow and cold.
Stitch:
Next up is the stitch that I created for the Zebra since that is our mascot. It is a Bargello Zebra Stitch and I have two diagrams, one with the first part of the Bargello design then the full chart. Hope you enjoy it.
Here is the full chart that I stitched.
Remember to change the look of the stitch you can rotate the chart 180 degrees and you have another design. Also changing threads changes the look.
Bargello Zebra Stripe stitch reminded me of the stripes on a zebra that go in different directions, hence two directions with the stitch. The Zebra is the Mascot for Common Variable Immune Deficiency.
Above stitched samples of the Bargello Zebra Stripe were stitched with one strand of Petite Silk Lamé was used for both black and white stitches. Top sample is rotated 180 degrees to show the difference. I also am using the magnet and needle for size comparison. This is not a large stitch but versatile and could be used in many places.
Voodoo Doll:
This months Needlepoint Now (January/February 2022) has a wonderful article and Stitch Guide for the Voodoo doll “Madame CUREie”. The Needle Arts Studio located at 5301 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA; phone – 504-832-3050.
You can find the Voodoo doll and other New Orleans canvas under their Needlenola website. Your local needlepoint store could also order the canvas for you, so you too can have your own Voodoo Doll.
I had to show off this Voodoo Doll since a friend and blog follower, Mari, used one of my charted stitches in her stitched Voodoo Doll.
Mari did a lovely job choosing her stitches and threads, she also gave me permission to show her work.
Don’t you love how this doll was stitched and looks finished!
Mari also stitched 2 other Voodoo dolls as companions. I don’t know the designer of these canvases but I am sure your local needlepoint store could find them if you wanted. I have seen this canvas stitched before and am surprised I have never stitched it. I do love all the elements in it and it looks like it would be a great canvas to stitch. Hope you enjoyed Mari’s stitching as much as I have and get some ideas of how to stitch your own canvas.
A little update, Mari has entered her Voodoo doll canvases into the Woodlawn exhibit. So if you live close to the exhibit you can see her work in person. How fun!
Well folks that is all for today. I still have several things to is chat about including my last Embellishment class of “3 Pigs”. Yes it is a three little piggies went to market style canvas which is fun. But thought this is a good spot to stop and I will be back with another stitch for you. If you would like any particular stitched graphed send a comment or email.
Take some time to put a few stitches in yourself.😸
